Our classes combine drama and team building games with script-focused scene rehearsal. A typical session begins with 30-40 minutes of games designed to energise, focus and engage, followed by script work.

During the second half of each class, our teachers work with individuals and partners on their staging, diction, physicality and critical analysis of each scene they are working on. Later in the course, we also practice performance in front of classmates to build their confidence and give feedback

What does a typical class look like?

The Speaking in Public course must be taken in conjunction with the Acting course, and consists of the writing and performance of one or more speeches on subjects chosen by the learner. We help learners to construct their speeches, give them plenty of performance practice, and guide them on their way to confident, fluent public speaking skills.

The examinations also feature a conversational section, where learners are engaged in conversation with the examiner, and graded on their ability to sustain healthy dialogue.

Public Speaking - Extra module

Students are paired with a suitable partner and given scenes to work on for their examinations. For any learners who are unable to find a suitable partner, the examination can also be taken solo.

Acting exams of all grades consist of the performance of two scenes, and a set of questions designed to encourage critical analysis of each scene. All parts of these examinations are practical, with no written aspect.

Where the exams are held will depend on the school and the agreement we have in place. Ideally we like to host the exams at the student’s school, but in the cases where that’s not possible, they will be held at a London-based exam centre.

Exams

The flat rate per child is £16 per lesson, plus exam fees. There are 30 lessons over the course of the year, with timetables set in partnership with each school.

Costs for exams are listed out separately and vary for each grade. The costs for exams are set by LAMDA, not by London Speech Centre, and we take no money for the exams themselves.

  • 30 classes at £16 per class  = £480 (this is the cost without exam fees)

  • Exam costs vary from £50-£60 per child dependent on grade

Costs

Payment is due at the beginning of every term and there is a separate payment for the exam fee which is charged when booking the exams.

If there is no payment but a child is still coming to class we will send several reminders before they are no longer able to attend.

Payment Terms

We ask for a term’s notice period before cancellation. As students work in partnerships we then have to re-pair the remaining student, so please be aware that cancellation has impact on other students.

Cancellation Policy

If for any reason we cannot offer in-person lessons we will carry these out over video call on an individual basis, so that no lesson is missed.
